Many organizations in the food chain have implemented a HACCP-based food safety system or the ISO 9001: 2008 to address food safety issues. The ISO 22000:2005 incorporates ISO 9001,Prerequisite Program (GAP/GMP) and HACCP, was published in September 2005. Many foods related businesses are now getting ready to understand how the ISO 22000 will affect them. They must be able to implement, change, integrate or enhance their existing management system to meet ISO 22000: 2005 requirements. Internal audit of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS) is a requirement of the ISO 22000:2005. There are special and different issues which need to be addressed in order to have an effective internal audit program of the FSMS as compared with ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) or HACCP System.
